Glossary

Every term used across this documentation, defined once.

Answer

What one AI assistant replied to one prompt at one point in time. Answers are the denominator of nearly every metric — see How metrics work.

Assistant

An AI system that answers prompts: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini. Each is its own market with its own sources — see AI assistants.

Brand

The company being measured, with its name, name variations, website, industry and a default country for new groups. Everything in the product is scoped to one brand — see Brands.

Citation

A source link an assistant used when building an answer. Citations aggregate into the Sources leaderboard — see Citations & Sources.

Coverage

The share of answers citing a given domain at least once. Distinct from citation share, which counts citations rather than answers.

Crawler

An automated client that fetches pages. AI crawlers are the ones operated by AI assistants — see Bots tab.

Domain Rating

A 0–100 estimate of a domain's link authority, shown as context on the Sources leaderboard. Not a target in itself.

Group

A named set of prompts, usually one theme. Metrics are calculated per group, and a group carries both its collection schedule and the country its prompts are asked in — see Prompts tab.

Group country

The market a group's prompts are asked in. Set per group, defaulting from the brand; locked on groups created from a suggested topic — see Geographies & languages.

Ingest key

The secret used to authorise your site's request logs into your account for bot analytics. Shown once when generated — see Bot analytics.

Mention

An occurrence of your brand name, or a configured variation, in an answer's text.

Name variation

An alternative form of a brand name — abbreviation, legal form, former name, misspelling, transliteration — that also counts as a mention. Unconfigured forms do not count.

Position

The average rank of your brand within the answers where it appears, counted from where each brand is first named. Lower is better — see Position.

Prompt

One question, as a customer would ask it. A measuring instrument, not something to optimise.

Prompt gap

A prompt that received answers in the period, none of which mentioned your brand — see Prompt gaps.

Reliability

The tier attached to a Position value, saying whether the average rests on enough appearances to be read: high reliability, reliable, low reliability, not reliable.

Report

A snapshot of a group at a point in time. Also the name of the tab holding the site audits — see Report tab.

Sentiment

How favourably answers describe your brand, on a 0–100 scale where 50 is neutral — see Sentiment.

Share of Voice

Your share of all brand mentions across tracked answers, counting every occurrence — see Share of Voice.

Structured data

Machine-readable markup declaring what a page is and what it describes — see Schema audit.

Visibility

The share of answers that mention your brand at all — see Visibility.
